About me

Preethi Hombal

Clinical Specialization

couples therapy and psychiatric social work

Introduction

I am Preethi Hombal, a Couple therapist at the ‘Marriage Fit’. My curiosity about the human mind and behaviour led me to pursue psychology as a profession. Over time, my experiences gave me a strong motivation to help, guide, and support people through emotional challenges. I believe that with the right guidance and space, individuals and couples can create more meaningful, secure, and fulfilling relationships. I specialize in couples and marriage therapy, with a foundation in counselling psychology, child and adolescent psychology, and family systems. I work with couples facing concerns such as communication difficulties, emotional disconnection, recurring conflicts, pre-marital concerns, trust issues, and challenges related to life transitions.

My Approach

I believe therapy is a space where you can truly be yourself, without fear of judgment or having to be perfect. My approach is warm, collaborative, and paced according to what feels comfortable for you. I work with both partners to understand not just what is happening on the surface, but the emotions and needs underneath that often go unheard in our daily life hassles.  With evidence-based approaches like Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), the Gottman Method, and attachment-based principles, together, we gently explore patterns, make sense of difficult moments, and build new ways of communicating and connecting. My role is to support you in feeling heard, understood, emotionally safe, and eventually guiding you towards healthier, more fulfilling ways of relating to each other as a couple. Expertise I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults, and this experience brings me an understanding of how relationships impact emotional wellbeing. My training includes evidence-based couple therapy approaches. I am also trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which supports emotional regulation and psychological flexibility.

What You Can Expect

In our work together, you can expect a structured yet empathetic process where we explore your relationship patterns, underlying emotions, and unmet needs. Most importantly, therapy will give you a space to ‘Pause’ and truly understand what’s happening within you.  I will guide you in building healthier communication, managing conflict more effectively, and creating emotional safety in your relationships. Therapy will move at a pace that feels comfortable, while gently encouraging growth and deeper connection. Beyond Conflict “It is not just about the absence of a conflict, but the way we understand and respond to each other is what strengths a relationship” I see couple therapy as a way of building a deeper emotional connection and creating a secure foundation for a relationship. My goal is to support you in building a relationship where both partners feel valued, heard, emotionally secure, and able to grow together with intention. This space is here for you not only during moments of crisis, but also in the quieter times when you simply need somewhere to set things down. A place where you don’t have to carry everything on your own—where you can feel supported, understood, and gently held as you make sense of your experiences.

Professional Experience

Bachelors in Psychology (B.Sc Psychology) Masters in Counselling Psychology (M.Sc Counselling Psychology) I hold a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and have over 3 years of experience working as a psychologist with diverse populations. My journey includes working in school settings as well as in a de-addiction centre, where I supported individuals navigating emotional difficulties, behavioural challenges, and the impact of addiction on their lives and relationships. These experiences have given me a deeper understanding of how personal and relational struggles are interconnected. I currently practice as a couple therapist at The ‘Marriage Fit’. A Note from Me At times, even when everything on the outside seems to be functioning, you may find yourself feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or confused and like something just isn’t quite right. Carrying responsibilities while holding all of this inside can feel heavy, tiring and lonely. Reaching out for support in such moments can feel like a big step, and I want to acknowledge the courage it takes to do so. Whether you’re feeling stuck, disconnected, or simply wanting to strengthen your relationship, I can offer a space where you can slow down, feel understood, and not have to carry it all on your own.
