Sometimes, family conversations on conflicting issues under the observation of professionals who examine the ways of communication, analyze the bond and quality of the relationship, and further help in achieving resolution. Previously, experienced clinicians have used a narrow approach in describing the family as children and parents, but as the field evolves, the concept of the family too evolved and surged a strong support system, long term roles, and relationships between people who may or may not be related by blood or marriage.
In the previous time, formal intervention with families aimed at helping individuals and families experiencing various kinds of problems, within the family context. These interventions at times involved formal procedures or rituals with the non-kin member of the community and were often conducted by a particular member of the community – for example, a chief, priest, elder member of society, etc. Family Counselling as a distinct professional practice has its origin in the 19th century in the United Kingdom and the United States and by the late 19th century it had reached parts of Asia, effectively the rich section of society. The formal development in family therapy increased substantially as the rise in the prevalence of child counseling was mandated by officials.
